ACAD: National Judgement, Isaiah 1

The vision concerning Judah (Judea) and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz Amos) saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. A Rebellious Nation Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth! For the Lord has spoken: “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me. The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but Israel does notContinueContinue reading “ACAD: National Judgement, Isaiah 1”

No hero is coming to save me.

My whole life has been marked by stories of heroes with superhuman powers. I grew up with Christopher Reeves’ Superman and Margot Kidder’s Lois Lane. A line that has walked with me throughout my life was delievered by Lois after Superman caught her after a fall from a skyscraper, “You’ve got me, but who’s got you?” Every time I meditate on this line, the same thought comes to me: “You may have saved me but who’s gonna save you?”

All Is Meaningless (ACAD: Ecclesiastes 7)

Wisdom gives strength to the wise more than ten rulers that are in a city.
Surely there is no one on earth so righteous as to do good without ever sinning.
Do not give heed to everything that people say, or you may hear your servant cursing you; your heart knows that many times you have yourself cursed others.
All this I have tested by wisdom; I said, “I will be wise,” but it was far from me.

Sermon: Family Matters – Present

Family Matters – Present
Has there ever been an ideal Biblical family?

The First Family: Adam and Eve raised a murderer
God eventually had a do-over with humanity
The Second First Family: Noah’s son, Ham, raped his mother while his father was passed out drunk next to her

ACAD – Remnant: 2 Kings 21

I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. I will cast off the remnant of my heritage, and give them into the hand of their enemies; they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies, because they have done what is evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger, since the day their ancestors came out of Egypt, even to this day.”

ACAD – Remnant: 2 Kings 19

The surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward; for from Jerusalem a remnant shall go out, and from Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

ACAD – Remnant: 1 Kings 22

Ahaziah, son of Ahab, began to reign over Israel in Samaria; he reigned two years over Israel. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father and mother[.] He served Baal and worshiped him; he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger, just as his father had done.

ACAD – Remnant: 2 Samuel 21

Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had tried to wipe them out in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.

ACAD – Remnant: Judges 5

Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, utter a song! Arise, Barak, lead away your captives, O son of Abinoam. Then down marched the remnant of the noble; the people of the Lord marched down for him against the mighty.
