Acknowledging my own guilt

Today, I was confronted by a sister in Christ who had a beef with me regarding my availability a couple of weekends ago. The first week of January, during Tuesday evening service, she invited herself to my home that coming Saturday. She wanted to hang out and watch movies. I shared with her that IContinueContinue reading “Acknowledging my own guilt”

Your darkness will be as noonday (Isaiah 58)

This verse has been on repeat in my head over the last few weeks. It’s from one of my favorite passages where God tells us what a true fast is. It isn’t about food; it’s about living a selfless life. Being fully available to people in need – those in your family and your community.ContinueContinue reading “Your darkness will be as noonday (Isaiah 58)”

IN THE NEWS: Have you heard about Rhonda Lee?

Rhonda Lee was fired for responding to a Facebook post on her TV station’s page suggesting she either “wear a wig or grow more hair” because she doesn’t look fit for TV as she is. My heart grew heavy with sorrow from hearing the story she told. Essentially, the turmoil was caused because a leader egregiously offended a member ofContinueContinue reading “Are you asking for forgiveness or expecting to be forgiven?”

Boredom can be debilitating

There’s been very few periods of my life where I have claimed boredom. I’ve been tired of my own company. I’ve needed a change of scenery. I’ve tried different things. But I’ve rarely considered myself to be bored. For some time now, I’ve been in a state where absolutely nothing that interests me. All theContinueContinue reading “Boredom can be debilitating”

Try showing up.

The most empowering and spiritually edifying moments, during this same period, are those times when I showed up for myself. Those moments when God instructed me to do something — usually something that seemed outrageous to me and perhaps appeared crazy to the world — and I took Him at His word and did as I was told. Those moments have provided me with the most profound LIFE lessons of all.
