Recently, I heard John Legend sing his new single, All of Me, live on David Letterman. The song took me away. A beautiful and emotionally eloquent expression of love. I rewound my TV twice to hear the song again and again. I haven’t bought popular music in years – at least I can’t remember theContinueContinue reading “Song & Verse: ALL OF ME by John Legend”

FOR WHITES (LIKE ME): on white kids
Originally posted on formations. // living at the intersections of self, social, spirit.:
Dear parents of white children, I vote that we strike the following from our parental lexicon: “Everybody is equal.” “We’re all the same underneath our skin.” I realize this is counterintuitive. But I’m completely serious. These statements are so abstract they’re mostly meaningless…

Change is inevitable
Change is one of the only guarantees we have in life, yet we all resist change for most of our lives. During some self-reflection this weekend, I acknowledged that I have become rather complacent in areas of my life. A couple of years ago, I saw that I was moving towards complacency and I desperatelyContinueContinue reading “Change is inevitable”
Expect. Expectant. Expectation.
The first couple of years on my walk I was put through a rigorous program that resulted in me letting go of my expectations of people. I started dealing with people in the moment we were in. I didn’t tie them to my future even though some past event lead to a present moment. IContinueContinue reading “Expect. Expectant. Expectation.”
