(1964) Malcolm X’s Speech at the Founding Rally of the Organization of Afro-American Unity
“This cultural revolution will be the journey to our rediscovery of ourselves. History is a people’s memory, and without a memory man is demoted to the level of the lower animals.” When you have no knowledge of your history, you’re just another animal; in fact, you’re a Negro; something that’s nothing. The only black man on earth who is called a Negro is one who has no knowledge of his history. The only black man on earth who is called a Negro is one who doesn’t know where he came from. That’s the one in America. They don’t call Africans Negroes.” {Click to read his full speech.}

Note to Self: When we expect to see our greatness
When we expect to see our greatness by how others appreciate and represent us, we set ourselves up for disappointment.
ACAD – Nations: Psalm 2
The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed Why do the nations rage[a] and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits inContinueContinue reading “ACAD – Nations: Psalm 2”
Quote: Four hundred years of black blood and sweat invested here in America…
What makes the black man think of himself as only an internal United States issue is just a catch-phrase, two words, “civil rights.” How is the black man going to get “civil rights” before first he wins his human rights, and then start thinking of himself as part of one of the world’s great peoples, he will see he has a case for the United Nations…..
Quote: Justice grows out of recognition of ourselves in each other.
Clem understood that justice grows out of recognition of ourselves in each other. That my liberty depends on you being free, too. That history can’t be a sword to justify injustice. Or a shield against progress. It must be a manual for how to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. {Follow link to read full quote.}
ACAD – Giving Thanks: Isaiah 51
I, yes I, am the one who comforts you.
So why are you afraid of mere humans,
who wither like the grass and disappear?
Yet you have forgotten the Lord, your Creator,
the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy
and laid the foundations of the earth.
Will you remain in constant dread of human oppressors?
Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies?
Where is their fury and anger now?
It is gone!
In defense of Ms. Patti LaBelle owning her overall pie success
Last weekend the internet, i.e. the known world, turned against Patti LaBelle. The weekend prior to last Patti’s new pie venture with Walmart sold out across the country. The Patti-pie craze was ignited by a humorous, but irreverent video by a Patti LaBelle admirer and voice mimic, James Wright (11/12/15). On Nov 20, TMZ postedContinueContinue reading “In defense of Ms. Patti LaBelle owning her overall pie success”
Gang Member Speaking at Baltimore Rally May 2 2015
This young man was one of several speakers who made quite an impression. I started recording after his introduction so I missed his name; he may be an ex-gang member, but “ex” was not in my notes. There were many gang members at the rally wearing their colors but standing in unity. It was quite the sight.
ACAD – Giving Thanks: Psalm 136
He remembered us in our weakness.
His faithful love endures forever.
He saved us from our enemies.
His faithful love endures forever.
He gives food to every living thing.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His faithful love endures forever.
