Desert of Solitude: Refreshed by Grace is the second book in my Faith Series which chronicles my faith walk by the decade. The beginning of the journey is My God and Me: Listening, Learning and Growing on My Journey.
Desert of Solitude is an excellent long-form companion to Alone | All In One: A Solitary Journey. They both tell a similar story in different ways with some slight overlap. Desert of Solitude is situated at the beginning of an understanding about my life. Alone | All In One is about the acceptance and embracing of that understanding.
The process of collecting, writing, and re-editing poems for ALONE | All In One: A Solitary Journey pushed me to finish revising Desert of Solitude. This revision has been happening since the original publication date in March 2018. I started with a format I wasn’t sure how to pull together. I think that uncertainty was evident throughout as it felt choppy to me at the time. Oddly enough, as much as I tried cleaning it up through the years, the book only got thicker and covered a bit more of my story. I am now well-satisfied with this revision. I hope it finds readers who appreciate its unconventional layout.
I now believe the issue with the first edition was that it wasn’t complete, rather than choppy. Most of the pieces I’ve added over the last six years took place within the same year of publication. At the time, I just wanted the project to wrap and didn’t want to pour more of myself into it. My impatience did me no good. And from the healing distance of time, I was able to be a bit more objective.
For those of you who follow this blog and read the first edition, the added content won’t be a shock to you. You may already know how things worked out. However, I quite enjoyed redesigning the cover for the second edition. I reworked an alternative cover design by Katie Good. The photo is by Deidre Wilson taken on the same shoot in the Vegas desert as the original cover image.
