The Process Of Asking For, Receiving, & Giving Love & Forgiveness by LaShawnda Jones is exactly what the book is about. It is a pool of information and guidance that educates readers about love and forgiveness and how to achieve it. This six-chaptered book incorporates Biblical scripture to help readers understand the meaning behind asking for, receiving, and giving love and forgiveness.

The book includes six sections that come with sub-sections: Love, Repentance, Forgiveness, Communication, Pop Culture vs. The Bible, and Oneness of Giving and Receiving. The sections I liked the best were Communication and Oneness of Giving and Receiving. Communication is a key part of building relationships. This section explains the importance of communication in our relationship with God, which carries into our relationships with others. God requires us to communicate with Him, so of course, it is expected when dealing with others. Oneness of Giving and Receiving explains the difference between believers and nonbelievers and learning how self-acceptance will allow what God has in store for you.

After reading Love & Forgiveness, my outlook has changed and taken on a new meaning. I appreciated the author’s usage of Biblical principles but it took over the books content, which made me believe I could have just read the Bible again. However, the author does provide a clear message that readers will take from the book. Reading the Love section of the book elevated my emotions due to one subject matter, tithing, my view of this differs from the author, which affected the remainder of the book for me. I recommend Love & Forgiveness to others.

This book was unbelievable hard to put down. As a person who struggled with issues of identity, love and unforgiveness, I found myself nodding, weeping (a bit), and stopping every once in a while to thank God. I am so thankful that I woke up and realized that by choosing God, I was choosing to love myself and that forgiveness is a gift you give yourself, whether the wounder is repentant or not. It is at the point of forgiveness that we can begin to heal and have a rebirth. Although I have come such a long way from the severely wounded woman that I once was, I do wish that I had been able to get my hands on a copy of this book back then.

Love & Forgiveness is broken down into seven cohesive sections:

    1. Introduction (Belief/Salvation)
    2. Love
    3. Repentance
    4. Forgiveness
    5. Communication
    6. Pop Culture vs The Bible
    7. Oneness of Giving and Receiving

It is equally palatable for the non-believer, new believer or old head believer. It is contemporary enough to avoid the churchified feel and speaks encouragement and truth with ease and conviction. Despite the inclusion of the touchy issue of tithing, if you are struggling right now, I would strongly recommend this book as a tool to help you understand who you are, what love is, and how you can work your way towards forgiveness.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Want to Know What Love Is
Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2011

Love and Forgiveness, by LaShawnda Jones is a biblically based instruction manual that combines scripture and pop culture to relay messages of love, hope, repentance and forgiveness.

In the beginning the author uses the popular 80’s hit, I Want to Know What Love Is, by the rock band Foreigner. The author is clever in using verses of the song to relate to them various stages, of love and heartache.

This book is for believers and non-believers alike, with instruction for believers to renew their biblical love affair and steps for non-believers to follow to find spiritual love. The biblical reference is a handy tool to correlate the teachings in Love & Forgiveness with scriptures in the bible.

LaShawnda Jones has a way of sharing her inspiring stories, which are certainly faith-based, without alienating those who are non-believers. Perhaps it’s because her belief in God doesn’t hinder her intelligence; hers is not a blind faith. Her book does a wonderfully effective job of connecting Biblical teachings to real-life applications. I think The Process of Asking for, Receiving and Giving Love & Forgiveness is the ideal book for someone who might be having a difficult time interpreting the Bible and making sense of it in the modern world. One of her most striking and resonant attributes is her willingness to really “put herself out there.” She opens up and reveals so much of herself in such an honest way, that, as an author, she is very relatable, which helps the reader to connect to the material.
