I used to plan my life. Nothing spectacular, but very organized by area and phase of life. In my youth, I bought into the “5-year plan for success” pitch. Where do you see yourself in five years? I’m sure you bought into the same short-term life-planning pit at some point or several points of your life too. In my youth, I always had an idea or a hope of where I would be in five years’ time in some area of my life – education, work, or relationship. Today I don’t. For the past ten years, my life has not evolved into anything I had envisioned in any of my five-year plans. In some ways, I am disappointed, but for the most part I am blown away.My life has been blessed in significant ways beyond my own thoughts for myself. I have been exposed to opportunities that I never even considered. I became aware of a spiritual journey I didn’t know I was on and embraced it with passion. Since then my faith has increased exponentially. God has been so good to me that “good” doesn’t seem a sufficient enough word to describe His grace towards me.
Some months ago, someone asked me, “Where do you see yourself in five years?”
I laughed. “I’m done planning. Nothing much has come of my plans for my life. I will be where God will have me be.”
Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge; and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God;and to your service for God, add kindness for your brothers and sisters in Christ; and to this kindness, add love. If all these things are in you and are growing, they will help you to be useful and productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But anyone who does not have these things cannot see clearly. He is blind and has forgotten that he was made clean from his past sins. ~ 2 Peter 1:5-9, NCV
