Saving Daylight
The best thing about Daylight Savings is when leaving working after 7pm doesn’t mean I completely missed the sunset. Took a detour to the pier after leaving the office tonight and was rewarded with this peaceful and beautiful view.

Photo Challenge, Week 43: Spooky Halloween Infrared Animated GIF
Okay so this was a great learning opportunity! Actually, everything about photography is a learning experience for me still, but this challenge was intimidating – mostly because it included elements from Week 35: Translucent Outdoor Long Exposures that I didn’t have time to try, plus infrared photography which I was not familiar with. All that said, I think my first attempts with translucent long exposure in infrared came out okay.

2015 Challenge, Week 8: ARCHITECTURE – BRIDGES Gapstow Bridge in Central Park was my go-to bridge this week. It was a beautiful day when I shot this, but most of my photos came out really blah. Thank goodness for the new life editing provides! I was really taken with the washed out silhouette that doesn’t suggest the City at all (in the comments), but at the last second (as I’m typing up my post) I’ve decided to go with a color edit with the City as background. Sony A33, 18mm, ISO 100, f4.5, 1/30 sec. Post in Lightroom.

I wandered into this exhibit on Saturday while walking around my neighborhood. It is a truly magnificent portrayal of the evolution of a creative life. As I told someone in the gallery, “Gabriel Figueroa sounds like someone I have heard of, but I would not been able to pinpoint why…. Though I am absolutely sure he has been referenced in countless works I’ve seen, heard or read.” The exhibit explores his career from the beginning as he learned photography by doing studio head shots to his transition into film with still photography and onward to creative collaborations with directors and other artists.
If you are in New York City and have any appreciation for photography or cinema, I encourage you to go see this exhibit before it closes on Saturday, June 27. It’s on display at El Museo Del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th St. http://www.elmuseo.org

Photo Challenge, Week 6 – Prime Numbers
Week 6’s photo challenge was to capture prime numbers – actual numbers, not spelled out. I immediately thought of addresses and street signs. This challenge got me walking quite a bit as I walked from one prime street to another. I caught a few prime numbers in between the streets as well. Much fun!

PC Week 6/2015 Submission: This was a random shot as I was walking down the street looking for prime numbers. The bike was really beat up and it stood out as it was propped up against the fashionable Ted Baker on Fifth Avenue. It was just my luck that the partial address in the next store front is a prime number. When I changed it to black and white, I really loved the over all composition and effect.
I didn’t edit all the photos in this post, this was the first one I started playing with. Then I decided to edit a few more. Editing produces nice surprises.
The New School at 5th Ave & W 13th Street. This school has been driving me crazy for the last couple of years! Thankfully, almost done!

Week 7: Still Life – Camera March 9, 2014 Playing catch-up: Experimenting with my hair and my camera(s) today. Over the shoulder/fro shot of one of my first 35mm’s (Minolta), my Samsung Galaxy S3 (gets most of my photo action), and my Sony A55 (still learning). Taken with my Tablet camera – cropped, bordered, color filter.
Week 11: Still Life – Toy “Riding on a full sundae can be problematic” Who was I kidding? No toy store visit was needed after all! Grown folks call these item “home decor” or “seasonal”! ;~D Sony A33, F/16, 1/160, ISO 200, 18-55mm lens 200% color saturated; 6500k temperature; water color sponge finish
Photo Challenge, Week 15: Still Life – Container Vessel & Light I love how I always come away with something completely different than what I planned on trying. Story of my life! This became a study of light (candle), form (vase) and color. Sharpening and contrast adjustment are the only treatments. Sony A33, 50mm, f/2, 1/80 sec, ISO 800

Week 26 Keeping it simple on the minimalism… i.e. giving up for the day. Played with my shutter and aperture settings on this and also tried multiple finishes is Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. This is a combination of the High Key and Lo Key finishes (didn’t plan that pun) in PS Elements. Sony A33, 35mm, f 4.5, 1/60 sec, ISO 500
Photo Challenge, Week 30: Still Life – Time TGIF! 2014 Photo Challenge Week 27: Nature & Wildlife – RED, WHITE and BLUE I set up at the park with the intention of trying to catch some birds in flight. No birds, but a lot of airplanes… and one of the best sunsets I’ve been able to capture. Explored local editing (to lighten the flag) and watermarking in Lightroom 5. Week 10: Depth of Field “Armchair Photography” Sony A33, 50mm, f/2, 1/25 sec, ISO 800
Photo Challenge, Week 14: Rule of Thirds: Circle in the Squares Statue of Christopher Columbus in Columbus Circle, NYC. I had planned on using a photo from another setting all week, but shot this today (smartphone) while walking around and couldn’t pass up sharing the grid shot for this challenge. Used Microsoft ICE to composite several photos. No other treatments.
Photo Challenge Week 21: Composition – Symmetry “Red Rock Lobby Lounge” I’ve spent most of the week in the desert admiring mountains. There’s not much symmetry in mountains, however I did manage to notice symmetry in art, architecture and design. This space, I kept coming back to – the chandeliers were stunning (only the tips are showing here). I hope it works for the symmetry challenge. Sony A33, f3.5, 1/30sec, ISO 1000, 18mm
